Who am I?
My name is Jeanni. I am a latte drinking daughter of the King who was saved by grace and lives by faith.
I am also the blessed wife to an amazing husband and mom to two incredible gifts from God. My daughter is 9 and my son is 11. To us, life is a gift from God and our faith guides everything we do. We believe that the greatest legacy we can leave on this earth is that in some way, we led others to know the Savior and Redeemer of our lives, Jesus. Without Him, we are nothing.
I am passionate about serving others, whether it is through our local church, charities (including our own local Baskets of Grace), or through this blog. It is my mission to help women find who they are in Christ and live an abundant, faith-filled life.
One organization I thoroughly support is Give Kids the World Village located in Kissimmee, Florida. So much so, that I have become one of their Awareness Angels. Give Kids the World partners with wish-granting agencies like Make-a-Wish all over the world and provides week-long all-expenses paid vacations to children with life threatening illnesses and their families. It still amazes me that people (just like myself) never knew the wonderful and important work that they do. If you have never heard of Give Kids the World Village, please check out my three part series to learn more about them!
I love working with brands, sharing and reviewing. I only work with companies that I feel my readers would benefit from hearing more about. It’s a very personal thing to me and I believe that being completely honest is one of the most important aspects of developing and maintaining a strong relationship with my readers. My favorite types of reviews are books.
Why I started Guard the Door:
I started Guard the Door after I felt God’s leading to share the journey of marriage and life. As time has gone on, my blog morphed more into a generic lifestyle blog. While that has its’ place, it was not what Guard the Door was intended to be. I already had a Disney travel blog and was not looking to start another one, but as many of us know, God’s plans are not our plans!
My husband and I were really moved by the movie Fireproof. The song, “Love is Not a Fight” would run through my head. Particularly the line about “God send angels to guard the door”. I didn’t know what it meant at the time, but it became clear that it was exactly what He had done many times in our lives and that “guard the door” was meant to be the name of a new blog I would create. Think about how many times God’s hand of protection was over you or your family. Guard the Door was meant to be a blog about preserving marriages, families, and leading primarily women to a relationship with Jesus.
The last two years, God has been sharpening me, while sanding off the edges of my spirit and heart that needed to be transformed. The result is a new and refreshed Guard the Door. It is my hope and prayer that I will serve you by sharing my stories and thoughts and that you will be blessed by them. When you go back through my blog, you will see the progression of where Guard the Door started, to where it is now. I thank God for the journey.
Some facts about my family or me, you might not know:
I love anything having to do with Walt Disney World, and we go as many times as we possibly can.
My husband and I love watching really bad B movies, especially if Mystery Science Theater has gotten a hold of them. We are still hoping they do an MSTK riff on the movie, The Warriors.
My husband and I are opposites when it comes to camping and the outdoors. My idea of camping is a Red Roof Inn!
My kids’ favorite show to watch with me is House Hunters and anything HGTV. They sound like realtors and home builders now.
I am married to The Grillmaster. My husband can grill some really yummy ribeyes, in addition to so much more.
I am not a seafood fan at all. For some reason I am always the one that gets the bad piece of fish!
I have seen Les Miserables and The Scarlet Pimpernel on Broadway more times than I can count and can and will sing every song. If we ever have anything big planned that will happen in one day, I will at any point start singing, “One Day More” from Les Miserables.
My hubby played the part of an army man in an episode of Army Wives. Blink and you might have missed him, but he was still there!
I spent a good portion of my younger years doing charity work alongside a professional hockey team and used to participate in one-ice scrimmages with the players. I even tripped a Hall of Famer. He shouldn’t have gotten in my way! 😉
From Me to You:
I ask you to join me on this journey. If something gives you a breakthrough, or touches you in some way, please share your story. I would love to hear it. You can find me on Twitter or on Facebook! With that being said, “Welcome” and “Thank You” from the bottom of my very humbled heart that you took the time to visit my blog!
