Are there things that you have always wanted to do, but never did them?
Are there new learning experiences that you would love to participate in, but still haven’t?
Are there organizations that you feel deeply about, or a group of people who you would love to serve, but you don’t?
Now is your opportunity!
Part of finding your authentic self is giving yourself the ability to experience life to its fullest. It’s not about what someone else does or even how well they do it. It is all about you and your journey to finding yourself again. When you step outside of your comfort zone, when you step outside of yourself, you are more likely to be doing those things that will make your heart sing. When your heart sings and you feel an abundance of joy or gratitude for the experience, then you are in the realm of your authentic self. You have found who you are at your core.
For me, I always knew I wanted to attend a Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within seminar. There was no real reason why I couldn’t go. I had been gifted a ticket by Tony Robbins himself, years earlier during my teaching years. All I had to do was show up. But my fears kicked in, mainly because of “THE FIREWALK”.
Years went by and finally I decided to go. Thankfully my husband was able to attend as well. I truly believe things happen for a reason, because we both needed to experience it together. On July 16, 2015, I faced my fears and stepped completely out of my comfort zone. Still dealing with my mom’s recent death and an anxiety level through the roof, I stepped out in faith. That day I was taught that I was in control of whatever state I was in and that I could change it just as quickly as I got into it. The transformation began.
Later that night, along with thousands of other people, many of whom I now consider friends, I got myself in state and walked on fire. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I remember going back inside and thinking, “If I can walk on fire, what else can I do?”. I felt unstoppable. I felt a strength I had never known. But that wasn’t the end…it was only the beginning. Now it was my job to build on that momentum.
Everyone thinks the firewalk is the big deal. It’s not. It’s the hours (15-16 hours a day) over the next couple of days that brings on the transformation. I was taken from my past, to my present, and to my future. It was there that I finally connected with my authentic self. I remember coming out of the seminar and feeling like a new person, and in a sense I was. I was a new, and better version of me.
Where would I be today without that experience? I doubt I would be in the place I am in. I doubt that I would have ever signed up to run the half marathon in Disney in less than 2 weeks. I would have a bucket list of experiences that were not be checked off and no plans TO check them off. As a result, a big part of my authentic self would be missing and left unfulfilled.
They are what makes our life rich and blessed. Without experiences, we are just existing. Life is meant to be lived to its fullest. We are meant to step outside of our comfort zones. We are meant to live a life where we can serve others. We are meant to share our authentic selves with the world.
So, what are the things that you want to experience, but somehow never do? What is just outside of your comfort zone?
Make a plan. Set a date. Do it.
